Hey You … Put that music CD down

riaa I am not a fan of the RIAA and their jackboot tactics to try and salvage something - anything - for the music industry so they can continue living off of a outdated business model. That said desperation must be setting in because the organization has just lodged papers in the ongoing case of the Record Industry vs Jeffery Howell which wants the judge to rule that ripping from your legally purchased CDs is actually illegal.

Accordingly should the judge rule in favor of RIAA’s motion that would make every single person in the US who has ever made a copy of their music CDs to play on their computer or any MP3 player nothing short of a criminal. given the current copyright mood of the US things don’t look good should the judge agree. The only rescue would be an act of Congress but that is as likely to happen as the members of Congress returning all the contribution money to the entertainment industry.
